Introduction

Acorn by Synergie is recruiting on behalf of an established engineering business seeking a practical, hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer.

This role is focused on delivering designs that work - not just in CAD, but in real-world production. You will develop new products, refine existing designs, and make sound engineering decisions that balance performance, manufacturability, and cost.

Key Duties
  • Develop and release production-ready mechanical designs.

  • Improve and adapt existing products to enhance performance and efficiency.

  • Define manufacturing methods, considering in-house capabilities and external suppliers.

  • Identify and reduce design risk early through structured review and analysis.

  • Control tolerances to ensure reliable assembly and product performance.

  • Work closely with Production, Purchasing, and Development teams to ensure designs are practical and commercially viable.

  • Produce accurate drawings and Bills of Materials to support costing and manufacture.

Requirements
  • Confident producing accurate 2D manufacturing drawings using GD&T best practice.

  • Strong 3D CAD capability (Solid Edge ideal, SolidWorks also considered).

  • Practical understanding of how design decisions impact cost, quality, and production efficiency.

  • Experience designing and developing sheet metal components and assemblies.

  • Proven track record of supporting products from prototype through to full manufacture.

  • Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent hands-on industry experience.

What We Offer
  • Salary up to £40,000 per annum depending on experience.

  • Monday-Friday working hours, 8:30am-5pm.

  • Permanent position within an established engineering business.

  • Opportunity to contribute to real-world, production-focused design projects.
