Introduction

We are seeking an experienced Fibre Engineer to join a team in Essex. The role involves fibre splicing, supporting pre-sales activities, attending technical meetings, implementing projects safely and on time, and meeting customer specifications for quality. The Fibre Engineer will work closely with the Project Manager and Operational Quality, Health & Safety teams.

Key Duties:

• Splice various types and sizes of fibre optic cable including single mode, multimode, stranded, and ribbon.

• Pull fibre cables and UTP, supporting the team or leading jobs as required.

• Lead teams on site or supervise site operations, reporting daily to the Project Manager.

• Carry out risk assessments and closely monitor site activities in line with health and safety requirements.

• Analyse and troubleshoot technical issues using OTDR, ILM, and power meter testing.

• Install closures, couplers, ODFs, and BT cabinets.

• Review and work with maps, drawings, blueprints, and testing documents.

• Perform daily checks and maintenance of splicing and testing equipment.

• Conduct optical continuity and conformance testing.

• Carry out splicing rearrangements on existing facilities in buried, underground, aerial, and building locations.

• Operate company vehicles in line with driving standards and maintain a good driving record.

Requirements:

• 3+ years' experience in fibre blowing, fusion splicing, splice audit verification, and voice/data/fibre installation and termination.

• Experience using OTDR and power meter testing.

• CSCS, ECS, or EUSR (Telecommunication) card.

• High School diploma or GED equivalency.

• Knowledge of multi-mode and single-mode fibres, CAT 3 and CAT 5, riser and plenum cable.

• Knowledge of universal communications colour codes.

• Utility pole/manhole awareness; bucket truck training and confined space training advantageous.

• Asbestos awareness certificate.

• Flexible to travel.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Certifications:

• Mandatory: BT PIA Accreditations S0001, S0002, SA007, SA008.

• N27, N28, N23, N39, K08.

• IPAF 1b.

• NRSWA 01.

• First Aid at Work.

• Clean UK Driving Licence.

• CSCS card.

• Optional: NOPS, Confined Space.
